PADI Rescue Diver

Learn to prevent and manage problems in the water, and become more confident in your skills as a diver. It’s challenging, yet very rewarding.

Challenging and rewarding best describes the Rescue Diver course. This course expands on what you have already learned about how to prevent problems and how to manage them if they occur.

You will increase your diving knowledge and skills and increase your level of awareness on every dive. As you learn to look beyond yourself and to consider the safety of others, you will build your confidence as a diver. This is a serious, demanding course but it’s also a lot of fun!

The course takes 3 days – 1 day of theory and rescue skills training followed by 2 days of training in the open water with 4 training dives

Schedule and organization

To give you an idea of what to expect, here is our typical course schedule. Your days will start at 08.00am and finish at approximately 04.00pm, depending on your pace of learning.

The day before you start your course, we ask that you come watch some of the video in order to get a head start on your theory and to make the rest of the course easier and more relaxed for you. You will only need to spend 1-2 hours here at the dive center in our comfortable classrooms.

You will be introduced to course topics by watching a video, reading and answering the questions in your manual. After review sessions with your instructor to ensure you understand the material, there is a multiple-choice final exam, in which you must receive a mark of 75% or higher to pass.

Rescue skills training

In shallow confined water as well as deeper open water, you will learn and demonstrate a wide range of rescue techniques.

Some self-rescue skills are from your PADI Open Water Diver course but others will be completely new to you and will teach you how to deal with an emergency case.

Rescue scenarios

On the last day of the course you will apply everything you’ve learned towards recognizing, responding to and managing two diving emergencies. Your instructor will structure these two scenarios to be as realistic as possible, giving you the opportunity to put your rescue skills to the test. Since there can be many different ways to perform a rescue, you will have to take into account environmental conditions and personal factors during these scenarios.
